An Overview of Tumor Removal Services from Colonial Manor Animal Hospital
At Colonial Manor Animal Hospital, we know that you want to find the best possible healthcare for your pet. That is where our team comes in. We have been proud to serve the pets and families in the Homer Glen area. We know that the idea of pet surgery can be scary for some people. We are here to discuss the process of pet surgery and tumor removal so that you can have a better understanding of how this process works.
How Pet Surgery Happens
Please know that before we recommend pet surgery to any of our families, we have exhausted all other options. We will explain the procedure to you in detail, including the risks and benefits. Then, we will discuss other options and leave it up to you. Our job is to educate you so that you can make an informed decision on the health of your pet.
On the day of the procedure, your pet will be put under general anethesia to prevent any unecessary stress or pain. This will minimize any discomfort while also making sure that your pet stays still for the surgery. Once your pet is asleep, we will carry out the procedure. Then, once the operation is finished, we will take your pet to the recovery area so that he or she can wake up in a comfortable setting.
Tumor Removal and Treatment Options
If our veterinarian is removing a tumor from your pet, we are going to locate the tumor first. We might do this with imaging such as an ultrasound. This allows us to plan our surgical approach. During the procedure, we will isolate the tumor. Then, we will cut off its blood supply before removing it. This minimizes the risk of bleeding. After this, a trained surgeon will take out the tumor. We may use imaging a second time to make sure we have removed it completely.
Once the tumor is out, we will place it underneath a microscope. This will help us figure out whether the tumor is benign or malignant. Once we have the answer, we will discuss the next steps with you. Sometimes, more treatment will be necessary. Other times, surgery is all that is needed.
